Herzlich Willkommen in Deutsch 2265

"Deutschvergnügen mit Musik, Märchen und Film" is a composition and conversation class conducted in German at the high intermediate level. Through German songs, fairy tales and films, students will learn to read, write, speak and understand German through hearing various kinds of German songs, reading and discussing some famous German fairy tales, and watching some recent German films . German songs, fairy tales and films can be used to teach current events, history, gender issues, multiculturalism, racism, and more. Grammatical concepts will be covered as needed.

After successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  • read and understand authentic German texts (song lyrics, fairy tales)
  • understand and use a wide range of vocabulary words related to the topics discussed in the readings
  • discuss German topics in a variety of situations
  • understand and use a wide range of grammatical structures in reading, writing and conversation (e.g. passive voice, conjunctions, subjunctive, relative clauses, and more)
  • compose essays on topics related to the readings
  • improve their ability to understand conversational German by listening to various German songs and seeing a few German films
  • give oral presentations in German
  • appreciate some new aspects of the culture of German-speaking countries.
